New Covent Garden Market

VINCI UK Developments formed VSM, 50:50 joint venture with St Modwen Properties and was appointed by Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) in 2011 to redevelop New Covent Garden Market (NCGM), reconfiguring the existing 57-acre market onto a smaller footprint of 37-acres, releasing 20-acres for redevelopment.

The scheme comprises the provision of a new wholesale market of 600,000 sqft including the operational space for over 200 individual market businesses, employing 2,500+ people (within a live site environment, ensuring trade continues unaffected throughout in the existing facilities, which are the subject of progressive replacement). The scheme also includes the development of a new Nine Elms underground station within the site boundary, which poses significant logistical challenges.

The surplus land is being transformed into a new high-quality residential neighbourhood comprising 3,000 new homes, 135,000 sqft new office space and 100,000 sqft retail, leisure and new community facilities.
